This week Jacob, Rebecca and I have been learning a bit about our family history. Mum has found a lot of convicts in our family tree. One day this week, we wrote a list together of the convicts. We also worked out where they came from and why they were sent to Australia. You can follow the link to the list.
And another day we worked out where mum's side of the family came from and put what we found on a map. There is already a map that my grandpa did for dad's side so we looked at that too. Mum's family all came from Scotland, England and Ireland. Here is my map.
Hi Elsie, this looks like it would have been a wonderful activity. I love the table and the fact that you placed everyone on the map. Love Grandad
ReplyDeleteHi Elsie,
ReplyDeleteWe were impressed with your mapping skills and had a discussion about convicts. Nobody in 1N knew what a convict was but they do now! We have also been learning about family trees. We can all identify our maternal and paternal branches, just like you can. Josh discovered that the surname Wren is more than 400 years old. Zac, Maeve, Freya, Omkar, Sienna, Oliver, Luke and Eva all have relatives from the UK like you too! This week at school everyone presented their family tree projects to the class. Mrs Flynn was impressed with the knowledge and presentation of everyones work. Some students even found out about their family coat of arms/crest.
We are all excited about starting school holidays this afternoon. It is also Mrs Flynn's last day before she puts her feet up and waits for her baby boy to arrrive in May.
Miss Lee will check your blog with the class next term. See you soon Elsie.
Love 1N & Mrs Flynn xoxox
Hi Mrs Flynn,
ReplyDeleteI hope everything goes well for your baby. I can't wait to find out his name!
Love Elsie.
