Mary Anning

Mary Anning was a famous fossil collector who was born in 1799. (You may have heard of her before.)

She was the first one to find the ichthyosaurus fossil when she was 12 years old. She later found plesiosaurs and pterosaurs.

We saw some at the Sedgwick museum.

 I read all about her in a book called 'Stone Girl, Bone Girl'.

Did you know that 'She sells sea shells on the sea shore' comes from Mary Anning Selling fossil's? This is the whole song:

She sells sea shells on the sea shore, 
The shells That she sells are sea shells I'm sure, 
So if She sells sea shells on the sea Shore 
I'm sure that the Shells are sea shore shells
